Docomomo International became aware by Docomomo Cyprus that Varosha, a unique modern urban site with world-class beachfront architecture is under threat. “Docomomo Cyprus condemns the abrupt and unilateral opening of Varosha (also Varosi, Varosia, and Maraş) a modern urban site that has remained fenced off and under the control of the Turkish Army since the violent division of Cyprus in 1974. Call for Papers: “Leisurescapes: Architects and Landscapes of Tourism in the Global Sun Belt 1945-1980”

In conjunction with an ongoing Cyprus-based research project, we are pleased to invite scholars and researchers in architecture, histories of architecture, urbanism and landscape, and social, cultural and environmental studies, to contribute to the collaborative Leisurescapes Project. The project took off in 2018 with an international workshop in Nicosia and a second workshop, which intends to bring potential contributors together, is planned for Spring/Summer 2021. Dear Docomomo Chapters, Due to the exceptional circumstances of COVID-19, we are extending the deadline of June 1st to August 15th, 2020. A plan for new documentation homework has been approved in the last Council Meeting, August 30th, 2018 (Ljubljana, Slovenia), proposed by the ISC/Registers. With the aim of moving forward to the documentation of conservation good practices, Docomomo Working Parties (WP) have to submit: Working Parties that already have submitted 30 Documentation Fiches and uploaded 50 sites to MOMOVE: (a) 1 fiche for 2019 and 1 fiche for 2020, on an example of Good Conservation Practice. Download the template here: link, and here: link.
