“The world-famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969)still inspires architects. However, his work is falling into decay, likemany other modernistic buildings. This evokes the question: whatshould we preserve and how?
The exhibition provides some answers. You will see, feel and readeverything about five restored masterpieces by ‘Mies’: S.R. CrownHall, Villa Tugendhat, 860-880 Lake Shore Drive, Robert F. CarrMemorial Chapel and Verseidag. A 20-minute video about thesebuildings, projected onto a 20-meter wide screen, will have itsworld premiere. You will also see an overview of 80 buildings designedby Mies van der Rohe.
This programme is presented to you within the context of theexhibition ‘MIES & the inheritance of modernism’ (from 10 April up to and including 7 August).

During the exhibition there are several mini-symposia in which expert speakers will elaborate on the five Mies projects from the exhibition. These symposia are organized in cooperation with OMA, Chipperfield Architects and Ivo Hammer at the universities of Eindhoven, Hasselt, Liège and Aachen.

The beauty of pure engineering – Lecture by Ko van Dun
Ko Dun (1953, Heerlen) provides an introduction to the architect and designer Mies van der Rohe, his oeuvre, Modernism in architecture and the link with the here and now.

During the exhibition, several trips will be organized, including a tour through the Verseidag complex on Sunday, June 19 and a two-day program including a tour of the HausTugendhat.
In collaboration with Filmhuis De Spiegel, several films are screened in line with the theme.”
