Conference: 20th-Century Urbanism and Landscape in Africa.
DOCOMOMO-International Conference and Symposium
20th-Century Urbanism and Landscape in Africa. Research challenges and opportunities.
University of Edinburgh
7-8 October 2015.
Dr Rexford Asassie Oppong – KNUST, Ghana
Prof. Luc Verpoest - KU Leuven
Prof. Johan Lagae – Ghent University
Dr Iain Jackson – Liverpool University
Following on from the successful workshop and conference held at the School of architecture, KNUST, Kumasi in July 2015, this new event will significantly carry forward the discussion about the potential ways in which research into 20th century modernism and landscapes in Africa can be pursued within African research institutions, in collaboration with international partners.
On the first day of the conference, 7 October, keynote speakers will present papers reflecting on their experiences and pedagogic research views on ‘ground-up’ research in Africa. These papers and contributions, which are invited from researchers from PhD level upwards, will form the background to the symposium on the second day (8 October), whose focus will be the research and teaching aspects of Modern Movement heritage and conservation in Africa.
We hope you can attend all or part of this innovative event.
This Conference and Symposium is jointly hosted and organized by the DOCOMOMO International Specialist Committee on Urbanism and Landscape (ISC U + L), in conjunction with the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies and the M.Sc Programme in Urban Strategies and Design (both within the University of Edinburgh)."
