Petition: San Sebastian Royal Nautical Club building
by José Manuel Aizpurúa and Joaquín Labayen, San Sebastian, Spain, 1928-1929
The building of the Real Club Nautico de San Sebastián, designed by Aizpurua and Labayen and built between 1928 and 1929, is one of the landmarks of Spanish rationalist architecture.
The last intervention it has undergone has deeply modified its appearance: glass railings have been added to the terraces and stairs to the disco on the top floor, replacing the previous ones made of painted iron or iron and rope evoking railings boats, more in line with the original project. A lifting platform has also been added, as well as a wooden porch access to the nightclub. Both this elements participate in the loss of the nautical spirit that made the design of the building an icon.
A petition to bring it back to its original state can be signed here.
