Film projection: "Les Vacances de Le Corbusier"
(2015 / France / documentary / 42 minutes)
director: Frederick Lamasse
"In 2015, to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Le Corbusier, almost everything has been said or done, Europe and worldwide, to enable the work to honor or disparage the figure that has held in its hands the meeting of architecture and modernity. To close this symbolic year and in timely confidence of "festivals", the idea of an evening germinated, which would be involved in or complicit neighbors, architect, writer and director to evoke a casual Corbu, intimate, closer, a man walking, look, writing, painting or photography. And filming!
Essentially based on his correspondence and still or moving images made by Le Corbusier, the film returns to the place where the architect spent his holidays. Le Corbusier kept saying that photograph was less important than drawing. Yet two periods of his life, 1907-1917 and 1936-1938, it takes more than six thousand photographs. During the summer of 1936, Le Corbusier uses a small camera to achieve long 16mm photographic sequences around formal and conceptual themes.
These documents provide an overview of his creative activity of painter and his obsession with natural forms. Le Corbusier never fired on paper or published this photographic and film material. It is even probable than it has ever viewed itself.
Frédéric Lamasse is a reporter for France Television image and president of the association Art cinema Sept-Workshop. The screening will be followed by a debate with: architect Marc Barani, director Frederick Lamasse, director and writer and architecture school teachear Dominique Machabert.
