Docomomo†International congratulates the architect Arata Isozaki for being announced the 2019 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner.

"Setting up his own practice in the 1960s Isozaki became the first Japanese architect to forge a deep and long-lasting relationship between East and West. Possessing a profound knowledge of architectural history and theory, and embracing the avant-garde, he never merely replicated the status quo but challenged it."

The Pritzker Prize judges highlight how "Arata Isozakiís reach and repertoire have expanded over the years to include projects of many scales and typologies and in numerous countries."

Arata Isozaki was awarded for the path he has been tracing in architecture, since the 1960s, bringing "together East and West", and giving significance to his works.

Docomomo International wishes the very best success for the architect.
