Conference: Critical Distance Cycle: Sergison Bates
15th May 2018, Grand Auditorium – CCB, Lisbon, Portugal
DATE: 15/5/2018
The Lisbon Architecture Triennale invited the british studio Sergison Bates to present his work at the conference Critical Distance Cycle, on 15th May, 2018, at CCB, Lisbon, Portugal.

“The conference as a primary form of knowledge sharing in architecture. Since 2011, Distance Cycle conferences have provided this space, establishing proximity and dialogue between the public and the speaker. In partnership with the CCB, this 3rd cycle (2017 - 2019) has already included the presence of Atelier Barozzi / Veiga founded by Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga, Paul Ghirardani, art director of the HBO Game of Thrones series, and Future Architecture Platform, which brought together Ethel Baraona Pohl in conversation with Lucia Tahan, Fakt Office, Bika Rebek, and Léopold Lambert. The Critical Distance cycle continues to invite authors who have already become references of the thinking in the architecture, for their singularity or consistency of a race recognized by the critic. This is the case of this year 2018, when we received Tham & Videgård, Sergison Bates, and Atelier Bow-Wow. We also intend to expand the field of reflection in generational and typological terms, including emerging authors and forms of design beyond conventional programs. And in spite of privileging those who work in a real-world architecture, in this cycle we make room for those who work on the "fictional" side of the film field or through high-technology trials that open radically new paths to human habitat under conditions extreme.

Founded in 1996, Sergison Bates Architects has a reputation for being one of the UK´s best architecture studios, focusing on projects ranging from urban planning to restoration, public buildings and housing. Headquartered in London, the atelier is international in approach and composition of the team, having opened a second office in Zurich in 2010.
Their projects are rooted in the context in which they operate, with a sensitive approach to the site and the potential of experience in materials and construction, with particular concern for environmental, social and economic sustainability.
This workshop aims to create a contemporary architecture guided by design whose approach is founded on research and supported by the academic work of Sergison Bates partners. This atelier has already gained national and international critical recognition through prizes, among them the Erich Schelling Prize and the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal.

Conversation with Cristina Veríssimo Arquitecta with a Master´s degree from Harvard University (2000-2002). She founded the CVDB atelier with Diogo Burnay in 1998. She is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of Dalhousie University (Canada) since 2012.” In ccb website
