Film projection: ‘A Encomenda’
18th May 2016, 21:30h, Casa-Atelier José Marques da Silva, Porto, Portugal
(2013 / Portugal / 18´)
Manuel Graça Dias
The Alvar Aalto’s influence was particularly perceived in post-war Portuguese architecture, an interest that has been shared by different generations of architects, from Fernando Tavora to Siza Vieira. The Hestnes Ferreira’s travel to Scandinavia, passing through Finland and the direct experience that Alvar Aalto´s architecture provides itself, acquires a special meaning materialized in works as Casa de Albarraque. "A Encomenda", a Manuel Graça Dias short film, makes known that little weekend house designed and built by Raul Hestnes Ferreira, between 1959 and 1961 to his father, the poet José Gomes Ferreira.
To mark this year’s edition of Dia Internacional dos Museus (International Museum Day), which theme is "Cultural Museums and Landscapes", and the 40 years of the death of Alvar Aalto, Fundaçao Marques da Silva proposes re watching this 2013 short film. The session, which will be attended by Raul Hestnes Ferreira, also has the projection of an interview, followed by an informal discussion with Manuel Graça Dias, Luis Urbano and Patricia Miguel, whom presented, in 2012, in Espoo, Finland, the conference "Scandinavian Time, The Voyage of Raúl Hestnes Ferreira to Finland and the Inference of Alvar Aalto´s Work in Portuguese Architecture During the Post-War II Period”.
Free entry. Limited capacity venue.
