Rafael Moneo awarded with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement

Call for Nominations: 2021 World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize
Deadline: 15th June, 2021 at 5.00 pm (EDT)

Docomomo International is pleased to inform that World Monuments Fund is inviting nominations for the 2021 World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize. The Prize will be awarded to architects or preservationists who have implemented an innovative intervention that preserved and saved a threatened modern building or complex. Nominated projects must have been completed in the last ten years and must have faced challenges or threats that affected the site before the project implementation. Threats may include deterioration of original materials, obsolescence, abandonment, or inappropriate changes in use, ownership, economic or political conditions surrounding the site. The UIA-endorsed competition is a major component of UNESCO’s ambitious project for the rehabilitation of the ancient city, Revive the Spirit of Mosul. “I Spy Modernism” Architectural Photography Competition by Docomomo US

In its inaugural year, the Docomomo US I Spy Modernism Photography Competition welcomed photographers of all skill levels to “put their own photographic imprint on modernism,” or as the iconic photographer Julius Schulman once put it, “to assemble thoughts in [their] mind,” and share them with the world in the form of a photograph. The prompt was well-received, with close to 300 photographs submitted. “Willert Park Courts, the first housing complex for African Americans in Buffalo and an early example of International Style design, will receive the Docomomo US 2020 Modernism in America Advocacy Award of Excellence.
