Saved! Former Kindergarten in Visaginas

Docomomo International was recently informed by the Visaginas Community that the decision not to place the former kindergarten located at Vilties str. 3, Visaginas, under the protection of the Department of Cultural heritage by Cultural heritage evaluation Council  was not accepted by the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court and so cancelled. Threatened by demolition in mid 2020,  the former first kindergarten in Visaginas, together with its twin building were designed by the Lithuanian architect Dalia Matukonytė. Docomomo International joined the appeal of  Visaginas Community to advocate the preservation of this former kindergarten which means acting against the implementation of the plans…

Saved! – Plečnik Stadium

Great news! Docomomo International is glad to inform that one of Ljubljana Modern’s masterpieces, Plečnik Stadium, is saved from demolition. The Stadium was in an extreme risk of being demolished due to a project of a new modern sport complex, the Bežigrad Sports Park (BSP) including a large-scale construction of skyscrapers, office buildings and underground storeys. Great news! Docomomo International became aware that the risk situation of Artemio Franchi Stadium, an icon of modern Italian architecture, took a turn. State Theatre in Hong Kong saved from demolition

Docomomo International is glad to announce that the State Theatre in Hong Kong is saved from demolition! Shushtar New Town registered on Iranian National Heritage List

Docomomo Iran shared with Docomomo International good news regarding the protection of a town that was started to be built in 46 years ago in Iran. The Shushtar New Town, a modern – but contextual – city in the southwest of Iran, in of Iran, which was under threat for some demolitions, now is registered on the Iranian National Heritage List. Docomomo International is glad to announce that the Villa E-1027 located in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, design by Eileen Gray (1929) is fully restored and saved from demolition. Often ill treated by its successive owners, one of whom was murdered on the spot, the villa, emptied of its furniture, was in a severely degraded condition when it was acquired in 1999 by the Conservatoire du Littoral, a coastline conservation body that is part of France’s Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, which already owned the Cabanon.
