Docomomo International would like to share the news from the European Heritage Tribune entitled “Nuclear Heritage: Chernobyl wants to become World Heritage”. “Almost 35 years after the nuclear disaster in Ukraine, authorities hope to make the 30km Chernobyl Exclusion Zone a Unesco World Heritage site. To achieve the protected status, a place ‘must be of outstanding universal value’, according to UNESCO. Plečnik Stadium – Update: Sign the petition

Docomomo International became aware by Docomomo São Paulo Nucleus that the bill (published as Complementary Law 71/2021), which determines the extinction of the Fundação Pró-Memória de Indaiatuba, was approved. The Foundation, created by Law No. 3,081 of December 20, 1993, recently celebrated its 27 years of experience in actions related to the preservation of the historical heritage of Indaiatuba. Saved! – Plečnik Stadium

Great news! Docomomo International is glad to inform that one of Ljubljana Modern’s masterpieces, Plečnik Stadium, is saved from demolition. The Stadium was in an extreme risk of being demolished due to a project of a new modern sport complex, the Bežigrad Sports Park (BSP) including a large-scale construction of skyscrapers, office buildings and underground storeys. Thankfully, the Ministry of Environment announced this week, that they have not approved the proposed project for the redevelopment of the Plečnik’s Stadium. Alvar Aalto architecture proposed for UNESCO World Heritage List

Docomomo International is pleased to know that Finland is updating its tentative list in line with the World Heritage Agreement. “In summer 2018, an open, online questionnaire survey was conducted for new nominations to be world heritage sites, which were considered in 2019 by a workgroup set up by the Finnish Heritage Agency. At the same time, they assessed the potential of these sites for meeting the criteria for Outstanding Universal Values, OUV – a prerequisite for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
