2009 European Heritage Awards

For the second year in a row, one of the awards granted by Europa Nostra went to a Docomomo member, demonstrating the level of excellence our members have reached on the field of conservation projects.
In 2008 the Van Nelle Design Factory project (Wessel de Jonge, architect) received the EU Conservation Award.
On June 5, 2009 European Heritage Awards’ recipients were nominated: Luciano Cupelloni, member of the Executive Committee of Docomomo Italia, was awarded in the ‘Conservation’ category for his renovation project “Macro Future and Alternative Economy City” on the Testaccio district in Rome.

Docomomo US
selected by the American Institute of Architects as recipient of the 2009 Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement |

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected the recipients of the 2009 Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement. The award, to be presented at the 2009 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco, recognizes and encourages distinguished achievements of allied professionals, clients, organizations, architect teams, knowledge communities, and others who have had a beneficial influence on or advanced the architectural profession.
The recipients include the collaborative contributions of two individuals, a photographer and an engineer; two publications, a textbook and a magazine; a preservation organization (Docomomo US); and an essay competition.
Docomomo US
Affiliated with more than 50 parallel organizations worldwide, Docomomo US is dedicated to the documentation and conservation of buildings, sites, and neighborhoods of the modern movement. John Morris Dixon, FAIA, on behalf of the AIA Committee on Design, nominated the organization for its vigorous and effective work to publicize modern landmarks, document key works for archives, and researching and disseminating preservation techniques particular to modern buildings.
“Docomomo US, with its diverse membership of architects, preservationists, historians, and enthusiasts, has become both a recognized force and a respected name in the preservation of modern heritage in the US,” lauds MoMA Philip Johnson Chief Curator Barry Bergdoll.

Competition for Image Models
of 20th-century Architectural Heritage |

The French Ministry of Culture (Direction of Architecture and Heritage – DAPA) and the International Union of Architects announce an international student competition for digital representations of landmark 20th-century buildings http://www.archi.fr/UIA/.
The panorama and 3D models designed will be based on digital photographs and developed using the Autodesk softwares ‘Autodesk ImageModeler’ and ‘Autodesk Stitcher’ (made available to the participants free of charge for three months).
The competition will be launched during the European Heritage Days on September 19–20, 2009.
Projects submissions are planned for April 2010.
The grand prize winners and all projects selected at the national level will be exhibited at the Venice biennial in September 2010.
The digital presentations of all selected projects will be posted online at http://www.archi.fr/UIA/.
