Demolition Threat: Canopies of the Sarasota High School
by Paul Rudolph, Sarasota, US, 1959-1960
The pedestrian canopies that extend around the side and back of Paul Rudolph´s Sarasota Senior High School (1959-1960) in Sarasota, US, are in imminent danger of being demolished by the Ringling College and the Sarasota Museum of Art. The canopies serve as a transition from the parking lot to the back entry of the old brick high school building (c.1926), that the college is now renovating into a museum.
Demolition works will be starting on March 25, 2015. It is because of this urgency that docomomo International asks for cooperation in saving this outstanding component of a remarkable mid-century building. Support letters can be addressed to Larry Thompson, President of Ringling College of Design + Art: firstname.lastname@example.org
