Demolition Threat: Mirail University Campus
by Georges Candilis, Toulouse, France, 1967-1975
DATE: 19/2/2015
The Mirail University Campus (Toulouse), designed by the well known architect Georges Candilis and built during the 60´s is facing an imminent complete destruction. Being an example of good architecture for educational use, it will be a great loss to erase Candilis´s intentions and principles, namely spatial structures, lighting conditions and the simplicity of this architectural masterpiece. It is urgent to act before the complete destruction of the original project.
For this reason, docomomo International would like to express sympathy for our colleagues of DOCOMOMO France, which are struggling to preserve the original project of Mirail University Campus.

Ana Tostoes, Chair of docomomo International, and Agnès Cailliau, president of docomomo France, addressed letters to Mr. Manuel Valls, Premier Ministre du France, calling to the attention of French authorities the necessity of safeguarding and preserving the complex.

These letters can be consulted in the following pdf, as well as the documentation on the subject prepared by docomomo France and an open letter by Julien Roumette, Maître de conférences of the Université de Toulouse Jean Jaurès – Le Mirail (France)
