Publication: Die Ästhetik der Platte, Wohnungsbau in der Sowjetunion zwischen Stalin und Glasnost by Philipp Meuser
DOM Publishers, 2015
"Residential construction in the USSR 1955-1991 is a contradictory issue and has hardly been taken into account in the current Construction. Concerns and claim this is currently the most comprehensive research on housing construction in the Soviet Union is an adequate appreciation of this largest construction program of modern architecture history in the chronicles of the 20th century. In addition to the classification of mass housing in the historical architectural context of the Soviet modernity ten building parameters for the identification of serial housing types in this study defined and applied by the example of three selected cities in the former Soviet Union: Moscow, Leningrad and Tashkent. Overall ´Die Ästhetik der Platte´ paints a new picture of the industrial housing construction in the USSR, not only the daily lives of more than 170 million Soviet citizens coined, but also the appearance of many cities between Kaliningrad and Vladivostok dominated until today."
