Exhibition: Hans Wegner 18 Sillas, un Mueble Bar y un Frutero
5 October 2015 - 10 January 2016, Patio Herreriano, Valladolid, Spain
"Hans J. Wegner is one of the most important Danish designers of his generation. Since late 1940 and in the following 25 years, Wegner established with Finn Juhl and Kay Bojesen, the vanguard of what has come to be called "Danish Modern".
Also in the Nordic context, Wegner became a central figure. The American-Danish merchant Frederik Lunning owned a furniture store on Fifth Avenue in New York that sold only quality Nordic design. In 1951, he established what was then called the "Nobel of Nordic design", the Lunning Prize, whose main objective was to make the Nordic design prize a strong brand. The first winners of the award were Wegner and Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala. After the exhibition "Design in Scandinavia" had been touring USA, between 1954-1957, the concept of "Scandinavian design" was cemented, and both Wegner Wirkkala were considered as its greatest exponents, even today."
