Every two years DOCOMOMO organizes an international conference, providing an opportunity to inquire into a theme that deals with an important aspect of the modern movement. The conferences are also a platform where specialists from all over the world can meet, exchange knowledge and make contacts.

The two-day tours following the three days of the conference are an opportunity for the participants to visit the modern heritage of the region hosting the event.

Since 2006, an international student workshop is organized in the frame of the conference, gathering worldwide universities and schools of architecture to combine theory and practice on a case study with the participation of different generations of researchers in the field. The first workshop focused on the Ataköy neighborhood, in Istanbul; in 2008 it worked on the Lijnbaan/Coolsingel-strip in Rotterdam and in 2010 on the Colonia Cuauhtémoc in Mexico City.
